Red Swastika School is a government-aided primary school in Bedok, Singapore. Its current principal is Ms Jenny Leong, once the vice principal of Red Swastika School. It was founded in 1951 by the World Red Swastika Society, the philanthropic branch of the Daoyuan. First located at Somapah Road, Changi, the school moved to its current location at Bedok North Avenue 3 in 1981.
Red Swastika School started with eight classes in a wooden building and a staff of ten under the Principal, Mr Chuang Shih Ie. The school was relocated to Bedok North Avenue 3 to make way for the development of Changi area.
The foundation stone of the new Red Swastika School was laid at its present site on 28 November 1979. It was officially opened on 11 July 1981. Upon completion of the project, Mr Chuang Shih Ie retired from service and Mr Wong Sin Eng was appointed the Principal in January 1982.
In 1990, it was designated as one of the 15 Special Assistance Plan (SAP) primary schools in Singapore with its good Chinese education tradition. The construction of the building was completed in 1994. In mid-December 1994, Mr Chia Tai Ching became the next Principal of the school.
The main school building, which includes a three-storey extension completed in late 1997, houses the classrooms, special rooms and administration and staff offices. It is linked to the double-storey hall cum tuckshop built in 1994.
In mid-December 2001, the fourth Principal, Mr Ong Kian Hin took over the administration of the school. The school began upgrading under the Programme for Rebuilding and IMproving Existing schools (PRIME) in March 2002. However, construction stopped abruptly halfway through due to insufficient funds. Another company was contracted to continue upgrading works, which was completed in 2006.
In 2003, the first principal of the school, Mr Chuang Shih Ie, died peacefully in his nineties. The school and state flags were flown at half mast on that day.
In 3 August 2007, an official opening was held and the students performed their first musical.
The swastika symbol as used here means the everlasting existence of Dao. The cross (+) within it represents the interaction between Dao and Man.
